For those of us who live in a cold climate, you'd think we do what we can to our homes warm and wise use of our energy to keep during the winter months. Yes, you take.
A lot of extra work to their homes with storm windows to cover them to install, replace the weather stripping on doors, walls of their isolation, blow extra insulation to their attic, install a programmable thermostat and a one hundred-and energy-saving projects.
At the same time, many people have little or not at all. Do they not have the time, do not have the skills, but renting a house or a financial problem, it's hard to say. The result is that many homes, especially older homes in town, there is little or no work done to save energy.
So this article is not for those who already weatherize their homes before winter, but for those who do not. That is my desire to ways to motivate you to save energy find your carbon footprint reduction, and yes, save your money. It was tight, I will try to rotate your arm in an attempt to help you save money.
Let's look at the possibility that the situation can not be true, why weatherized home.
Lack of time for WEATHERIZE
I understand the reasons for this, but I do not intend to validate. Assuming you have some skills and some ideas on how weatherize, you say no more than an attempt to say you're lazy or have just selected you do not want a certain job types have.
There are many types of work we do can not enjoy and if you can not find the time to weatherize your home, someone to do it for you. Yes, there are thousands of companies out there waiting for your call. They want a fantastic job weatherizing your home to do.
So if you're doing, just one time and do a search online or in your local yellow pages and business calls at home weatherization and then your task is complete. You get that monkey of your back and you feel glad to do something to save energy ... plus you save money.
Lack of skills
Your attitude is that you want to weatherize your home, but you're not sure how the length of yellow tape to get if you are confused about what a 6-in-one screwdriver or how to use it. I can sympathize with you and to all who know you, but that's no reason not to take action to close to your home.
Nobody is born with knowledge, but we are all born with the drive. Many of us have suppressed these drives from time to time and finally learn that very little in life, but the best part is that this is only an option and not really a pain. Does this mean that you have your new things to learn. You're right. Say quietly to yourself at first. "I can learn new things." Now say it out loud: "I can learn new things."
No matter what your past has taught you and do not care what your friends and family say, you can always do better if you actually choose to do so. Choose to do better and chose to put aside the fear of what you have to learn how to weatherize your home and just choose that you learn what you need to learn, so you weatherize your home.
This is a brave new world for you. This may be the beginning of a new world religion. Just choose to try, and if it becomes difficult or something hairy, to push through and try a little harder.
To begin, I have two references for you on learning about the weatherization work:
Protect and Weatherize - by Bruce Harley
This is a well written book that will show you things that are very helpful and will open the world of ideas on how to weatherize your home.
Weatherize America (http://www.weatherizeamerica.com)
Weatherization program online business not only for companies that want to weatherization work to do, but for anyone who wants to learn how to inspect their homes and then follow up and make weatherization improvements.
Tenants of houses and apartments
If you decide to take a penny of your money into a house or apartment you rent, that is your right, but if you pay for heat, it's time to change your mind about what you think by losing to weatherizing pay to heat your room.
If you pay for heat, you're the person who wins by any major improvements you do to weatherize homes. Of course, some things you do may be permanent and will work to increase the value of the property, but it would be helpful if you could spare a thought for a moment and think about what is best for you. What would help? Let not the problem as it helps other people too. Just focus on what you think will help you.
Will help you if the weather stripping on doors replaced? Will you help if you have a single pane window will not be used in the basement is closed permanently? Will help you if the basement is better insulated, where most of the ground? Would be useful if the cracks in the walls of nails in the air stop blowing? Will help you if you dry guy was replaced by a dry seal vents? Will help you if the water heater or boiler was wrapped with insulation?
All questions regarding the improvements that may very well be permanent and will help homeowners to have a degree, but more significantly they will help you, so do they. If you choose not to do, although the owner, the house has not changed and he lost nothing, but you heat flow out of the house, so you lose.
Like most of my life tenant, the first thing I do in almost every house I moved into a ReWire to some degree (not a functional space with only two containers) and I will protect and cover. The point is that I would live and I want to be comfortable, and yes, the landlord's house to be improved and yes, the people who lived there after I was able to enjoy what I do, but who cares? I do benefits for all the time I lived there and I'm saving more than ever the cost of repairs, plus that my level of comfort of the house while I lived there raising.
If you are a tenant, everyone wins when you weatherize, but your first win, so put aside any reservations you may have and do their own thing and weatherize your living room as you'll waste less fuel, reduce carbon and save money.
NO MONEY
I understand no money, but you have the money, it's just that apparently there is not enough junk to repair so many other needs or desires are in line for your precious dollars.
You can still do a lot of weatherization improvements, but high-tech options such as window seals, shrink-wrap can be removed for better long sheets of plastic and tape. Additionally you will be amazed how many weatherizing can be done with some caulk tube carefully placed.
A trick I learned to make a perfect seal is what I call the "Poor Mans seal window name. Start by opening windows or doors that do not properly seal when closed. Apply a thick bead caulk to the window or door areas where real windows or doors will push against when closed. Place a long sheet of plastic wrap over caulking and then firmly close the window or door. Wait 12-24 hours and open a window or door and remove the swap plastics and viola, you have a perfect seal fit.
Overall, what I'm trying to say is that even when money was scarce, the little things as much as possible and be creative. The point is that you only spend more money or fuel.
A final option, and varies dramatically from state to state, is to see whether a local, regional or national programs to help you finance your home weatherization needs. Depending on your income, you may find you are eligible to work for free or inexpensive weatherization.
For all others
It pays to weatherize. There is no easy way to say it. It pays to weatherize. So many people benefit when you choose to weatherize. First, there you are, there are people you can hire to help you, and then there are your store supplies purchasing, and then there is the global demand for fuel that you just drop helped, so the price for all people in the world, and finally there is the world benefit.
Weatherizing a gift that keeps on giving, because many of the improvements you make the last years, plus many improvements you make to your fuel costs, will also help reduce air conditioning costs in summer. There are not enough down-side of the weatherizing.
